Going through the years from when I was a child and now, i’m just going to say that I still love reading children’s books. Children’s books gives you a lot to think about because they have meanings to it. My all time favorite authors would be Shel Silverstein because she writes so many good books and poets. One of my favorites books from her would be The Giving Tree because it’s about the kindness of giving when you have nothing. In the story the boy asks for apples so he can sell them. Then he asks for branches so he can make a house and keeps on asking until there was nothing but an old stump. As the boy got older he last request was asking for a quiet place to sit and rest. Its about the sacrifice you make for someone who needs it more then you. In the story the tree is lonely and wants to make friend meaning the boy. If you had read the book every time the boy comes the tree is happy. One of my favorite lines from the book would be “I wish that I could give you something but I have nothing left. I am just an old stump. I’m sorry”. In this quote the tree is sorry because she had nothing left to give to the boy who had grown up but there was something the tree gave which was a place to sit. Reading this to your kid and explaining it to them when they are older can teach them to be nice and give even when they don’t have much because a little can be a huge difference to the other person.
